Obituary for Lillian Kinnel

On the morning of December 21, 2018 at 11:31 a.m., the Lord went into his vineyard. As he looked around, he saw his servant, Lillian Kinnel. He softly said to her, my child, you have labored long enough. Come now and receive your crown.

Lillian Kinnel entered into this world on December 14, 1944 in Ullin, Illinois to the late James and Nancy B. Richardson.Lillian grew up on a farm with her 11 siblings and faithfully attended the Church of Christ in Grand Chain, IL where she was baptized into Christ at an early age.

Lillian loved learning and excelled in school, and graduated from Karnak High School in Karnak, IL. She then attended Southern Illinois University (SIU) in Carbondale, IL where she majored in Business Education and earned a minor in Accounting.  After graduation, Lillian accepted a teaching position at Perth Amboy High School in New Jersey.Lillian returned to IL and moved to Springfield, IL, where she accepted a job with the State Government as a Senior Legislative Research Associate with the Legislative Research Unit. While working full time, Lillian also pursued and received her Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Sangamon University (now known as the University of Illinois Springfield).  She retired in 2006 but kept busy with countless hours of volunteer work at her church, giving back to the community, and working with young adults.

Lillian implemented a four star tutor program in her church congregation and served on the DBW Scholarship Commission as Treasurer for several years. In July of 1981, Lillian was joined in Holy matrimony to, Ulysses Kinnel.  They enjoyed 37 years together. Ulysses was her soul mate and traveling companion.Faith, family and friends were the focal points in Lillian’s life. She was an active member of the Jasper Street Church of Christ, where she taught a Sunday school class for high school students, and chaired the ladies fellowship group for several years. She enjoyed traveling, fishing, gardening, fellowshipping and discussing politics with her friends and family. She traveled to all 50 state capitals, as well as several countries oversees.

Lillian had a welcoming, friendly, energetic and driven personality and was quick to greet you with a smile, hug and had a compelling laugh. She was a great listener, gave wonderful advice and was always lending a helping hand to those in need. She believed in living life to the fullest and inspired those around her to do so as well.

On Friday morning, December 21, 2018, after 74 years on this earth, Lillian went home to be with her Heavenly Father. She leaves to cherish her memories, her loving husband, Ulysses L.
